TRANSITION TRAUMA , 2018
This collection explores the emotional journey of trauma through wearable designs, redefining fashion as a therapeutic and lasting experience.

CONCEPT

The collection reflects the process of coping with traumatic transitions. Each look depicts different stage of experiencing trauma: shock - anger - denial - acceptance. The idea is to reconsider the purpose of wearing clothes and transform our interaction with garments to something more therapeutic and emancipating. Fashion industry’s fast pace makes our relationship with garments brief and expandable. The concept is to focus on emotional durability rather than appearance

while designing. Growing up in post-communist reality, I could see the phenomena of transition trauma from communism to democracy everywhere. This experience has driven me to explore these emotions through performance. I decided to depict the process of transition starting from restricting myself in the fabric - escaping into new forms. This created a unique approach to my garment construction and design process - designing through performance.

Research
From manipulating, shaping and cutting into large pieces of fabric on myself, I have discovered silhouettes that I would not be able to achieve through traditional pattern cutting. The stills from the performances were the starting point for my collection.
04
Development
While performing I focused on the feel of the fabric on my body, not its appearance. As the garments were cut from big pieces of fabric falling onto a body, each of the pieces is cut with big shapes - creating folds, loose silhouettes, panels in unexpected places.

The garments can be worn in different ways, all according to how the person wearing them feels.

Final photos
Collection focused on experiencing different stages of trauma and the process of change in the individual. Each of the looks is exploring the concepts through senses, materials, cut, texture and colour. The pieces are created to be transformed by the wearer, making them multi-functional, versatile and sustainable.
