SUBVERSION OF WOOL
Exploring techniques to make headstock gabardine wool more dynamic and elastic, enhancing its performance potential.

CONCEPT

With a singular material in focus - headstock gabardine wool, the project explores techniques of making wool more dynamic and elastic for performance. The objective of the collection was to design with a singular fabric -

sourced from deadstock vintage gabardine wool fabric from the Royal College of Art material archive. No trimmings were used, making the collection fully biodegradable.

02
Research
Researching how gabardine wool behaves on the body in the traditional sense and how it can be transformed into a performance material that creates motion and moves along with the wearer, providing optimal comfort when worn.
03
Development
Imitating the human muscle structure, subverting a traditional suit fabric into a performance structure. Allowing the wearer free movement and multi functionality of the pieces.
04
Final project
Pieces from the collection were worn and tested by the Sarabande performance artist Lulu Wang in her performance film 'The Ode' and during her various live performances in London.
